Is the main shaft bent or is the main gear warped? You can remove the rotor head and spool up the motor to see if the main shaft is bent. It will be obvious if it it's bent when spinning, and it has to be perfect so if there is any bend to it, just replace it.

Thank you for your reply. I will try what you suggested. Do you know how much of a job it is to replace the main shaft? My wife surprised me and bought me another 230S so I'm not in a desperate fury to get it done.

The main gear has a definite wobble and the heli make a griniding noise almost like pebbles in a tin can. So it could be the main gear, the main shaft or something else...

I never saw this part of the story. I would check the motor, its possible you knocked a magnet loose and that is what you are hearing.
