I wouldn't like the way the main gear wobbles. Acts a bit like when the esc is set to wrong cell count instead of auto detect or correct cell count.

Check the clearance between the pinion and the main gear. Make sure it is not to tight and the teeth are meshing, and not to tight.

As I understand it , the radio needs to be registered on a My Spektrum account in order to accept the update. Updates are linked to serial numbers so when you downloaded your updates, they were linked to your serial number not his. Once he registers the radio, the update should be downloaded from ...
